A 5-day Training Course

Thermography can provide quick diagnosis of problems in buildings and their services in commissioning, operation and maintenance. To get the most out of infrared cameras, users must have knowledge of the principles involved in thermography, suitable conditions and the best methods to use. The course is run by BSRIA in partnership with I-Red. The trainers are thermographers with many years of experience in building and

engineering surveys. This course is also approved by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) and successful completion is required before candidates may sit the externally administered PCN level 1 IRT examination at the end of this 5-day course (please note the examination fee of £50.40 is not included in BSRIA course fees).

  6. Condition Monitoring: Program design and acceptance testing overview; program implementation overview
  7. Codes and Standards
  8. Training Examination

Prerequisites

It is recommended that level 1 candidates have at least a secondary school science or technical qualification, or its equivalent and are able to manipulate simple algebraic equations at a level equivalent to that of a basic mathematics qualification, use a basic scientific calculator, and be familiar with the operation of personal computers.

Outcomes

Level 1 personnel are qualified perform industrial infrared thermography measurements according to established and recognised procedures and may be authorised (within the scope and limitations of the certification held) to:

  • apply a specific thermographic measurement technique
  • setup and operate equipment for safe thermographic data collection
  • perform basic infrared thermography of plant and machinery, buildings and electrical systems
  • verify the calibration of the measurement systems and the integrity of the collected data
  • prevent or control poor data (sources of data error)
  • maintain a database of results or trends
  • perform basic fault detection and severity assessment
  • perform basic image post processing (measurement tools, emissivity adjustment, span and scale adjustment etc)
  • verify the calibration of thermographic measurement systems
  • evaluate and report test results in accordance with established instructions and highlight areas of concern
Documentation

Delegates are provided with a training manual. The course fee includes lunch and refreshments.
