Radiators, heated towel rails and heat emitters
Testing for CE Marking, Kitemark and benchmark product performance
From 1 December 2005 CE marking of radiators came into force. CE Marking can only be applied to products successfully tested to EN 442 by the Notified Body.
In the UK, BSRIA is the only UKAS accredited laboratory and Notified Body for:
- Testing of radiators, heated towel rails, heat emitters and convector heaters
- Standard testing to BSEN 442 for CE Mark and Kitemark
- Development of new models and design optimisation to achieve a good quality reliable product
- Measuring low surface temperature LST critical for installations where the maximum operating temperature must be controlled and to ensure compliance with the NHS Safe Surface Temperature guidelines
- Product comparison testing and simulations
Our fully automated test facility, manufactured by the Italian company Angelantoni, is a closed highly insulated and water-cooled cabin. Such environment enable us to accurately measure heat emissions, durability, pressure tightness and other parameters under different operating conditions
The thermal output of product can be established at various water temperatures, and characteristic equations can be calculated for models of the same type.
BSRIA maintains a reference test installation which meets the requirements of the EN442 standard. We have participated in a successful test programme to verify the reproducibility of the test values between test laboratories using a set of 'primary master radiators'.
We are also a Notified Body for radiators listed on the Nando website under the Construction Products Directive (CPD).
Electric radiators
Performance of electric radiators is tested at BSRIA to the BSEN standard in a controlled chamber to different temperatures, heating duty, colling loads and other conditions or to clients' specification.
