Boiler testing
UKAS accredited laboratory for boiler efficiency compliance
The Boiler Efficiency Directive requires that all domestic boilers fuelled by gas or oil have to comply with the regulations.
BSRIA is a UKAS accredited Notified body under the Boiler Efficiency Directive for testing boilers up to 70kW and issuing EC Type-Examination Certificates.
Using our independent reports and certificates manufacturers can demonstrate compliance with European efficiency requirements. We test oil and gas condensing boilers.
Oil-fired boilers:
Testing to BS EN 304:1992, BS EN 303 and OFTEC Oil Firing Equipment Standard OFS A100. The OFTEC standard applies to central heating boilers, condensing and non-condensing, either wall hung or floor mounted with a nominal heat output up to 70 kW used with atomising oil burners. The OFS E100 also covers oil pressure atomising nozzles for use with kerosene.
Gas-fired boilers
Testing to BS EN 483: 2000 Type C, BS EN 297 Type B11 and B11BS boilers fitted with atmospheric burners.
Biofuels:
Efficiency and emissions test on boilers using any concentration of liquid biofuel, e.g. 5%, 15%, and 20% mix in Class C2 kerosene or diesel (35 seconds gasoil).
Cookers, stoves and boiler related components such as flues can also be tested at BSRIA.
- efficiency test - full and part load
- failure investigations
- low level flue testing
- emissions, hot water performance, thermostats
- biofuel testing
- cooking performance
- ad hoc research on fuel additives
- annual surveillance
Winter conditions tests
We also test the starting ability and and performance of boilers under simulated harsh winter conditions. Cold combustion air can be supplied at temperatures down to at least -10°C.
