Professional aftercare is the new professional service that project teams are being asked to provide. Buildings are never perfect on day one, and resolving defects is only part of the story. Achieving performance against design expectation is all about fine-tuning and de-bugging often complex systems. Here's how BSRIA can help.
Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE)
With the project team still engaged beyond completion, the findings of a POE can be used to understand how a building is performing and to identify actions to improve energy use and system usability against design targets.
BSRIA's approach to POE falls into three elements:
- A forensic walkthrough building inspection documenting both the positive and negative aspects of building performance
- An energy survey breaking down the energy used in a building by type of consumption e.g. heating, air conditioning, and lighting using established CIBSE methods
- Assessment of occupant satisfaction using surveys and interviews of building users and occupiers
Building performance measurement
BSRIA provides advice on the measurement of building performance, and can use its vast experience with Key Performance Indicators to help you develop a set of building performance metrics, comparing if required against industry data collected through our Operation and Maintenance Benchmarking Network.
Display Energy Certificates (DECs)
BSRIA's engineering team includes qualified DEC assessors who can deliver assessments, plus practical advice for year-on-year energy improvements.
